Societe Generale’s support to Hong Kong promising artists

07/12/2022

For over 25 years, Societe Generale has been supporting contemporary artistic creation through the Societe Generale Contemporary Art Collection. With more than 1,200 works produced by both emerging and renowned artists from around the world, the Contemporary Art Collection is the embodiment of the Group's support for artists of all generations and from all walks of life.

In 2021, Societe Generale in Hong Kong launched a “Call for artists” initiative, seeking to acknowledge and celebrate young and local artists whose career would benefit from the visibility and support provided by the Societe Generale Art Collection.

After receiving numerous submissions from Hong Kong based artists sharing their interpretation of the theme “The World As Home”, 9 artists were shortlisted by a panel of experts from Societe Generale and the art industry. Following a consultation of Societe Generale staff in Hong Kong, the jury made a final selection of 3 winners: The World As Home, a digital painting on canvas work by Elaine Chiu, Embroidery on the plastic bag – Goldfish Street from Angel Hui Hoi Kiu and the sculpture Voyage by Anton Poon.

“We appreciated the diverse styles and range in mediums of the works we reviewed. The quality of the art submitted was high, and it was not easy to make a selection,” shared Christine Chan Chiu, one of the 6 jury members.

The winners received a financial prize, and their artworks are now showcased in Societe Generale’s reception on the 34th floor of its Three Pacific Place premises in Hong Kong.
