Australia – Important notice on imposter financial product scams

(Last updated: Apr 2026)

Societe Generale is aware of scams in which imposters pose as Societe Generale to target members of the public in Australia. These scams may involve the offering of investment products (including shares, bonds or deposit investments), or requests for upfront fees purportedly required to initiate, process or release large domestic or international money transfers. None of these are genuine Societe Generale products or services.

Some scams reported to us involve imposters contacting individuals via email, messaging applications or social media, and providing forged letters, payment instructions or transaction confirmations bearing the Societe Generale name and logo to give the appearance of legitimacy. These documents are fictitious and not issued by Societe Generale. We are also aware of imposters falsely claiming to represent a Societe Generale office in Melbourne, a city where we have no presence, and of emails sent using misleading domains such as @societgenerale.com.au (incorrect spelling of “Societe”).

Societe Generale does not request upfront fees from members of the public to facilitate investments or third party transfers, nor do we advertise investment products or payment services to the public via social media in Australia. Any unsolicited approach or request for payment in these circumstances should be treated as suspicious and likely fraudulent.

If you believe you, or someone you know, has been targeted or scammed, please lodge a report of misconduct with ASIC, report the matter to police, and submit a report to ReportCyber.
