The Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) aka Rugby India in association with Societe Generale and Rugby Association of Maharashtra (RAM), are hosting the “Societe Generale Junior National Rugby Sevens Championship 2016” at the prestigious Bombay Gymkhana on 20th & 21st October, 2016.

A total of 18 States, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Daman, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, will vie for Gold at the Junior National Championships.

Commenting on the occasion Mr. Mahesh Mathai, Secretary General, IRFU said, “We are pleased to announce the Societe Generale Junior National Rugby Sevens Championship 2016 is to be held at the Bombay Gymkhana. We are grateful to Societe Generale for supporting this initiative and are thankful to the Bombay Gymkhana for always being in the forefront for the development of Rugby in the region. The response received for this tournament has been overwhelming and it is particularly encouraging to see participation of boys & girls teams, from various States including remote parts of the country. It is evident that the sport is growing at a rapid pace across India and the Get Into Rugby grassroots programme, initiated by Rugby India and supported by Societe Generale, has been the driving force behind this development.”

Highlighting Societe Generale’s global and local commitment to promote rugby, Evelyne Collin, Chief Executive and Country Officer - India said, “The Societe Generale Junior National Rugby Sevens Championship comes at the back of our announcement of partnership with Rugby India in July. Thanks to this partnership, we aim to train, develop and groom national level players through shared Values of Team Spirit, Commitment, Responsibility and Innovation. This tournament is an ideal platform for players to showcase their skills and be a part of the National India Rugby team. We also hope that the ‘Get Into Rugby’ initiative will be able to harness the potential sports talent at the grassroot levels in the country, especially at locations where resources are limited. We are committed to making Rugby accessible to everyone and we hope that together with Rugby India we can help build a strong national team to compete at a global level.”
