Singapore Cricket Club Announces Groundbreaking Title Sponsorship from Societe Generale for the 67th Edition of the SCC International Rugby 7s Tournament
First major corporate sponsor of historical rugby event since 67 years
SINGAPORE, 30 October 2014 – SOCIETE GENERALE, one of the largest European financial services groups, has announced its Title Sponsorship of the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) International Rugby 7s. This is the first time in 67 years that a major corporate sponsor has signed as the Title Sponsor for the historical Sporting Tournament. The upcoming three-day rugby festivity will be named the Societe Generale SCC International Rugby 7s Tournament, and the two-year sponsorship is expected to play a critical role in boosting the development of rugby in Singapore. The Tournament has and will continue to have a strong focus on channeling proceeds to the development of rugby in Singapore in partnership with the Singapore Rugby Union.
Societe Generale’s two-year sponsorship will not be limited to Asia’s oldest 7s Rugby Tournament, but is part of a wider sponsorship for the SCC Rugby Section as well as the SCC Junior Rugby Academy. It is the first time that all three tiers of the SCC Rugby family have a Title Sponsorship. The Title Sponsorship of the Singapore Cricket Club Rugby 7s and its Section as well as the recently announced sponsorship of the Hong Kong’s Valley Rugby Football Club builds on Societe Generale’s long-standing and on-going support and commitment for the rugby scene internationally.
Pascal Lambert, Societe Generale Group Country Head for Singapore and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking, Southeast Asia, says: “Societe Generale and rugby share the same values of team spirit, commitment, innovation and respect. As Societe Generale celebrates its 150th Anniversary this year, we are delighted to partner the Singapore Cricket Club in supporting rugby at all levels while sharing its excitement and best moments with the community.”
As a Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015, the sponsorship of the Singapore Cricket Club Rugby 7s and its section continues Societe Generale’s long standing tradition of supporting rugby. Since 1987, Societe Generale has extended its involvement with amateur and professional rugby teams around the world and now supports national rugby federations in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Marc Lansonneur, Chairman of the SCC Rugby 7s Organising Committee, expressed his enthusiasm over the Sponsorship. “It is a pleasure to welcome Societe Generale as Title Sponsor, as we celebrate our 67th edition of this historical Tournament this year. We are proud to have such a respected partner in the world of rugby, as Societe Generale, support our club’s rugby activities. It is an important milestone for all of us at the Singapore Cricket Club and the wider community of Singapore Rugby at both senior and junior levels.”
This year’s 67th Edition of the SCC International Rugby 7s Tournament sees an exciting field of talent making its way to Singapore, including a star studded side from Paris, Stade Francais. 2014’s Finalists Penguins from the United Kingdom are also looking strong in a very tighgroup this year. This year we will see a new element; a Halloween party on Friday night, which promises to be a fun night out for the rugby fan and casual observer alike.
The tournament begins on 31st October 2014, and concludes on 2nd November. Tickets are still available through http://www.ticketbooth.com.sg/
